What We’ve Loved

Sydney (SYD)

If You Like to Shop: Stroll through the Queen Victoria Building and don’t forget to see what’s underground. Not only is this building filled with shops you have never heard of before, it’s also beautiful to look at decorated in stainless glass.

If You Like Food: Take advantage of the large food scene in this city and try different cuisines. Somehow, these Australians have it all figured out. Check out our map above for restaurant recommendations - although I have to specifically call out Bar Totti’s for outstanding Italian food (make a reservation ahead of time).

If You Like Coffee: Sydney truly has coffee shops everywhere you look. I’d recommend trying a “piccolo” - this is a special coffee ratio born out of Sydney and Melbourne. Ordering one of those will make you feel like a local.

If You Like to Explore : Take the Ferry out of Downtown and check out the coastal towns - we spent a whole day in Manly and had a great time. Also consider visiting the Blue Mountain National Park for hiking and beautiful views.

Other Things to Consider: You can absolutely make use of Ubers and public transport; But, if you like to walk, bring some comfortable walking shoes. Sydney is very walking friendly.

Vivid Sydney: For three weeks each winter, Sydney hosts Vivid Sydney - an arts festivals that transforms the city into a glowing wonderland, illuminating iconic landmarks like the Opera House and the Harbor Bridge with immersive 3D projections and light installations. Beyond the lighting displays, the festival hosts live music performances, fireworks displays, and culinary pop-ups. For more information, visit Vivid Sydney!

Melbourne (MEL)

Distance from Sydney: ~1.5 hour non-stop flight

About: Melbourne is Australia's cultural capital, celebrated globally for its vibrant street art laneways, passionate sports culture, and world-class espresso. It appeals most to travelers who prefer discovering hidden culinary gems and distinct neighborhood vibes over checking off traditional, postcard-perfect tourist landmarks.

Who Melbourne is for: ‍Foodies, city lovers, modern art connoisseurs, and road trip lovers who want easy-access to nature.

Similar American Cities: Seattle or San Francisco

Justin’s Pick (Right photo): The 151 mile Great Ocean Road offers both incredible views of the coastline and many opportunities to see wildlife along the way. If you’re taking the Great Ocean Road, stop at the Kennett River Nature Walk. It is a public trail where we have seen koalas and many kangaroos in the past. Teddy's Lookout is also a great spot if you want to get an elevated view or if you are into bird watching.

Ana’s Pick (Bottom Left photo): One of the best days of my life was at the Australian Open. A beautiful day watching tennis match after tennis match, and stopping for merch, food, and coffee in during free times - I really couldn’t ask for more. Although there won’t be any tennis there, check out Rod Laver arena for any concerts as June 2027 gets closer. This is a huge venue that hosts big artists for a reasonable price.

Let us Warn You: Rental cars are needed to travel outside the city, but be mindful of driving within the city itself as Melbourne has special left turning rules.

Adelaide (ADL)

Distance from Sydney: ~2 hour non-stop flight

About: Adelaide, the capital of South Australia, is a historic city framed by rolling parklands, historic architecture, and world-class wine regions like the Barossa Valley. Just off its coast lies Kangaroo Island, offering easy access to untamed wilderness, pristine white beaches, and incredible native wildlife encounters.

Who Adelaide is for: Wine lovers or those wanting to spend time with wildlife & raw nature in Kanagroo Island.

Similar American Cities: Austin or Portland

Justin’s Pick: Unless you’re planning a stop at a vineyard, I’d recommend connecting through Adelaide to reach Kangaroo Island. Staying overnight gives you plenty of time to explore the trails and spot local wildlife without rushing—and make sure to stop by Seal Bay to see the sea lions in their natural habitat.

Ana’s Pick: I haven’t had the chance to visit this city yet!

Queenstown (ZQN)

Distance from Sydney: ~3 hour non-stop flight

About: Queenstown is framed by a majestic alpine wilderness where the jagged, snow-dusted peaks of The Remarkables plunge directly into the deep, glacial waters of Lake Wakatipu. It serves as the ultimate gateway to New Zealand's raw South Island landscapes

Who Queenstown is for: Pristine nature lovers, adventure seekers, foodies, and those wanting modern accommodations.

Similar American Towns: Lake Tahoe or Jackson Hole

Justin’s Pick (Right): A short cruise (1-2 hours) though Milford Sound is an absolute must see if you’re in Queenstown. During our visit to the stunning fiord which is part of Fiordland National Park we got to see multiple waterfalls, untouched mountains, and seals & dolphins swimming around the boat. Milford Sound can be reach either by road or though 45 min scenic flight from Queenstown which we booked through Glenorchy Air. Glenorchy Air has kindly offered a 10% discount for our guests! Just let me know if you’d like to book with them and I’ll share the details.

Ana’s Pick (Top Left): If Justin didn’t write about Milford Sound already, that would have been my highlight too. I’d strongly suggest trying the scenic flight, it was breathtaking. As another spotlight, I really enjoyed Queenstown itself. We stayed right by the water - the picture in the top left is part of our hotel and leads into a scenic walk. The town also had great food and shopping.

Other Things to Consider (Bottom Left): Mount Cook and the Tasman Glacier are about 3 hours north of Queenstown. An incredible option for those looking to be outdoors and not discouraged by some snow or ice. The national park offers incredible hiking, helicopter skiing, or mountaineering. If you are headed into the park, we recommend spending the night so you can fully embrace the area, stop at Wanaka along the way for a bite to eat. The road trip itself is full of scenic stops with gorgeous views - you won’t believe they’re real.

Let us warn you: It’s going to be cold! Don’t be surprised by some snow during your time on the Southern Island of NZ during June.

Auckland (AKL)

Distance from Sydney: ~3 hour non-stop flight

About: Auckland is New Zealand's largest city, known for its beautiful harbors, volcanic landscapes, and vibrant mix of urban life and outdoor recreation. It offers excellent dining, easy access to beaches, islands, caves, and hiking trails.

Who Auckland is for: Those who want to be in nature during the day but come back to fine hotels & food at night.

Similar American Cities: San Diego or Honolulu

Justin’s Pick (Bottom Right): Skip the busy guided cave tours—Waipu Caves is free, self-guided, and under two hours from Auckland. Just park at the trailhead, grab a headlamp, and put on water shoes or sandals (the water gets ankle-deep inside). Follow the signs to the entrance, bear left once inside, and walk 100–200 meters. Kill your lights, wait a few seconds for your eyes to adjust, and enjoy the incredible glow worm show above. No caving experience required! Message me for details.

Ana’s Pick (Left): One hour north of Auckland, stop by the Dome Walkway Summit. It’s a steep ascend uphill but so worth the views - especially at sunset. Don’t forget to look up into the trees and you may see small owls enjoying the scenery. For any yarn or textile lovers, I strongly suggest making some time to explore The Ribbon Rose. Just trust me.

Other things to Consider (Top Right): A few minutes from downtown Auckland, you will find Mount Eden - a dormant volcano. A short hike up and you will get a great view of the city. As another day trip, check out the Taupo Volcanic Zone if you’re looking to see geysers and volcanic pools.

Let us warn you: If you are planning to rent a car in Auckland, reserve a car at least a few days in advance as supply is limited.

Cairns (CNS)

Distance from Sydney: ~3 hour non-stop flight

About: Cairns is a vibrant tropical city in Far North Queensland, best known as the primary gateway to the Great Barrier Reef and the ancient Daintree Rainforest. Don’t expect glorious accommodations or Michelin quality restaurants but nature will surely not disappoint.

Who Cairns is for: Those who want to be outside from sunrise to sunset and are not are not afraid of wildlife. Also, for those who want to be in the water.

Similar American Cities: Florida Keys or Hilo Hawaii

Justin’s Pick (Top Left): The Great Barrier Reef is a must see if you're a diver, snorkeler or interested in becoming one. While there are day trip options, I recommend spending at least one night on the reef since it is a few hour journey to get out there. There are many liveaboard options to best fit your schedule, most will also pick you up from your hotel in Cairns. The water can be a bit chilly in June, I used a 5mm wetsuit during my dives then.

Ana’s Pick (Right): The Daintree Rainforest National Park is a a ~3 hour drive from Cairns and a great stop to see wildlife, like the Cassowary in the video. If you’d rather see crocodiles, there’s plenty of guided water tours along the Daintree River. We had a great time with Solar Whisper, which also had a dog on board.

Other things to consider: A rental car is a must in Cairns to go see the Rainforest. There are limited food options once you go north of Port Douglas, so make sure to bring some food in the car if you are spending the day in Daintree. Plus, it’s pronounced “Cannes”. Don’t make the same mistake we did and get made fun of by locals.

Perth (PER)

Distance from Sydney: ~5 hour non-stop flight

About: Nestled between the Indian Ocean and the Swan River, Perth is Australia’s sunniest capital, famous for its pristine white-sand beaches, expansive urban parks, and laid-back outdoor lifestyle. Other Things to Consider: Whale watching season starts in June - if this is on your bucket-list, Perth is a great option.
